Meet Our Interns

Brittany Reed (she/her)

Counseling Intern

Please join us in congratulating Brittany onj her upcoming graduation! Brittany will begin her journey as a licensed therapist at Tranquility Counseling Service in Boise starting the week of May 14th.

Hello! My name is Brittany and I am a counseling intern with Roots and Wings Counseling.

I support children, teens, adults, and partners struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral concerns, and self-acceptance. All are welcome here. In this space, I invite folks to show up as their authentic selves in a place of acceptance and safety for all. That being said, my office is LGBTQIA+, size inclusive, and culturally accepting. I believe that we can learn how to thrive in a life where our problems don’t control us. I value helping my clients learn how to rewrite their stories through discovering their purpose, strengths, and skills to help them reapproach their painful experiences.I use experiential therapy activities such as art, play, and movement in conjunction to talk-therapy to make sessions active and engaging. Navigating life’s challenges can be hard, but finding the right counselor shouldn’t be one of them. I look forward to meeting you and seeing if we are a good fit!

Tommy Stafford (he/him)

Counseling Intern

Hey folks, my name is Tommy. I'm grateful and excited for this opportunity at Roots and Wings, as I spread my wings and fly as a counseling intern! I am passionate about LGBTQ issues, redecision therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and ending the stigma surrounding mental health disorders.

In the fall of 2024, I will graduate with my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University. I was born in Montana, and raised in rural Nevada, but now I'm happily married to my wife in Boise, Idaho. I received another Master's in Business Administration in Healthcare Administration, as healthcare was my passion at the time. I established my love for mental wellness as a board member for NAMI Treasure Valley. I've worked as a certified nursing aid and mental health case manager for over a decade combined. In my studies, I've explored personality disorders, self-improvement through self-love, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapies. My prior experience with NAMI and seeing families torn apart by an illness was a tipping point in my going back to college to become a counselor. I can't wait for what the future holds for you.
